Ashtrays and Cigarettes

The smoking cigarette is a recurring motif for North, used as a way to show an interval of time. Stubbed out cigarettes then function as records of individual moments, due to the finite amount of time a cigarette can burn for, around 5-10 minutes, by painting these butts North conveys the sense of time spent and the fleeting passing of moments.
